US Army TACOM Tank Automotive Research tests Ultra Light Vehicle new military vehicle concept

A prototype military vehicle undergoing testing at the U.S. Army TACOM complex in Warren could soon lead to a lighter, more fuel-efficient armored truck for U.S. troops sent to the battlefield. The Ultra Light Vehicle, or ULV, weighs 6,350 kg (14,000 pounds), about one-third of the weight of similar military vehicles, yet will be capable of a top speed of 112 km/h (70 mph).

XM25 Counter Defilade Target Engagement weapon system ready for low-rate initial production

Lt. Col. Shawn Lucas, the PEO Soldier program manager for individual weapons at Picatinny Arsenal, N.J., said the XM25 is currently in the "engineering and manufacturing development phase," not yet ready for fielding. The XM25 Counter Defilade Target Engagement weapon system is now in development. But by this time next year, the system may have moved into low-rate initial production and if so, will lose the experimental "X" prefix.

BAE Systems introduces the smallest multispectral sensor available for unmanned systems

BAE Systems has introduced one of the smallest multispectral sensors available for unmanned systems — an innovation that will help improve soldier situational awareness by reducing the time required to identify targets. On today’s battlefield, soldiers need the ability to process, understand, and engage with their environment at any time, under any condition or circumstance.

Defense White Paper on Cognitive Tactical Communication Networks

Cognitive Radio (CR) has been an intensive topic of research in recent years. Its main applications range from the utilization of TV white spaces to interoperability between large communication systems in all layers. Tactical communication systems that have to operate in hostile radio environments with interference, jamming and rapidly changing network topology share many common challenges with civilian cognitive radio. Russia to produce the first real amphibious assault rifle 5.45 mm caliber called ADS

The ADS is the first assault rifle in the world to fire equally well both in and out of the water. Notably, it is as good as the latest models of Kalashnikov-type assault rifles, while being smaller in size. In 2007, a Tula-based arms producer managed to produce an amphibious assault rifle, the result of nearly 6 decades of research and development.
