The 3rd battalion, 8th Cavalry, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team is the first brigade of the U.S. Army to receive the newest version of M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank (MBT), the new SEP V3 variant. The Abrams M1A2 SEP V3 (System Enhanced Package) is a modernized version of the M1A2 Abrams main battle tank (MBT) in service with the US Army, offering enhanced protection and survivability, as well as higher lethality than the previous version of the M1 Abrams tanks.

Leonardo DRS, Inc. announced on May 27, 2020,  that it has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Army Contracting Command to provide mission-critical computing systems for the M777A2 Lightweight 155mm Towed Howitzer.The indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract is worth up to $21,470,307 and was awarded on February 19, 2020, with the first delivery order worth $6,319,922.

The PGZ consortium implementing the contract with the Armament Inspectorate for the modernization of Leopard 2A4 tanks for the Polish army has formally completed the process of collecting the first two tanks in the 2PL standard. Works aimed at collecting the next three vehicles are to be completed this week. The formal collection of vehicles is an important stage in the program, enabling the start of delivery of subsequent batches of modernized Leopard 2PL MBTs.

The U.S. State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Kuwait of 84 Patriot Advanced Capability (PAC-3) Missile Segment Enhancements (MSEs) and related equipment for an estimated cost of $800 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered on May 28 the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale.

After COVID-19 forced the Army to shutter or curtail major exercises, the service’s top officer said Wednesday, May 27, that Soldiers will soon return to train with partners in the Indo-Pacific region. Pacific Pathways, a series of exercises where units conduct several stops and train with foreign militaries in an expeditionary-style deployment, has been temporarily halted after the Defense Department issued a stop-movement order, slated to end June 30. Sean Kimmons, Army News Service, reports. “Our intent is to get back with these exercises as soon as the conditions allow,” said Gen. James C. McConville, the Army’s chief of staff. “We have to stay ready.”

Swedish company Saab has received orders from Latvian and Estonian Armed Forces for deliveries of Carl-Gustaf M4 portable anti-tank weapon system. Deliveries will take place in 2021-2024. The orders are placed within a framework agreement signed by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) in June 2019, which allows Sweden, Latvia and Estonia to place orders for Carl-Gustaf M4 weapon systems during a ten-year period.

China Navy's only land-based air defense brigade is based on Hainan island. While smaller independent air defense units provide air defense for naval installations elsewhere, this is the only mobile unit in the entire province of Hainan, the island that shelters Navy's HQ of the Chinese Southern Theater Command.
