As formulated by the Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance (MDAA), the Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS) is the Marine Corps’ new push for modernizing its Ground-Based Air Defense capabilities. It is part of the Corps plan to upgrade their two active Low Altitude Air Defense (LAAD) battalions, which currently rely on dismounted Stinger missiles and radar equipment transported in two AM General M1114 Humvees per section.

The upgrade of weapons of the Russian Airborne Forces demanded to design new airdrop means. Platformless PBS-950U and PBS-955 parachutes have been created for BMD-4M vehicles and multirole BTR-MDM armored personnel carriers. They airdrop the vehicles from airlifters with the crew inside. In 2021, new parachutes will be delivered to another two battalions armed with BMD-4M.

Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) has been commissioned by IVECO Defence Vehicles S.p.A. to produce the driver’s cabs of GTF2 protected transport vehicles on the IVECO Trakker basis. In total, the order involves a production volume of 224 protected cabs from KMW with an option for a further 824 truck cabs.

Taiwan finally reached an agreement with the U.S. on April 28 to inspect its Patriot III missiles at an undisclosed American military base, Kelvin Chen reports in Taiwan News. This inspection will take place after administrative errors were corrected. The Control Yuan indeed pointed out last month the Air Force had failed to comply with project approval procedures for its Patriot III missiles.

The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency on April 29 announced that the State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Australia of Heavy Armored Combat Systems and related equipment for an estimated cost of $1.685 billion. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale.

French Defense Minister Florence Parly had a meeting on Wednesday 21 April 2021 with the British Secretary of State for Defence, Ben Wallace. KMW and WFEL announced on April 27 that a further sub-contract has been awarded for the British Boxer Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) programme. Horstman UK will supply over 250 angular gearboxes and control units for the Boxer programme. Following rigorous supply chain evaluation, Horstman was selected to ensure the best value and lowest risk to the Boxer programme.

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems signed an agreement to create a new joint venture with Group 42 to develop commercial artificial intelligence (AI) and “big data” technologies, Seth J. Frantzman reports in The National Interest. It comes in the wake of Israel and the United Arab Emirates signing a peace deal in 2020.

According to pictures released on the Facebook account of the Jordanian armed forces, the Italian-made Centauro 8x8 105mm anti-tank armored vehicle is now fully operational with the Jordanian army. In November 2018, the Spanish company SDLE (Star Defence Logistics & Engineering) has won a multi-million Euros contract for the reactivation, maintenance and modernization of 80 first-generation Centauro Cavalry Reconnaissance Vehicles (CRV) for the Royal Jordanian Army.
