Iran test-fires Bavar-373 home-made missile defense system
 
Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili said on Saturday, August 30, that Bavar-373 fired its first successful shot. He added that the system, developed as an alternative with superior capabilities to the Russian S-300 after Moscow canceled its contract with Tehran, works better than certain similar long-range missile systems manufactured by other countries.

NATO released new satellite images on Thursday, 28 August 2014, that show Russian combat forces engaged in military operations inside the sovereign territory of Ukraine. The images, captured in late August, depict Russian self-propelled artillery units moving in a convoy through the Ukrainian countryside and then preparing for action by establishing firing positions in the area of Krasnodon, Ukraine.

Raytheon's AI3 enhancements showcased during joint US military exercise
 
Raytheon Company and the U.S. Army achieved the first intercept of a cruise missile by the Accelerated Improved Intercept Initiative missile. An AI3 missile also destroyed an unmanned aerial system (UAS). Both intercepts occurred during the recent Black Dart demonstration – a U.S. military exercise held July 29 - August 11.

Danish Parliament approved military contribution to Iraqi and Kurdish forces
 
According to local medias, Danish parliament on Wednesday, 27 August, approved Denmark's military contribution to the international campaign against jihadist militants in northern Iraq. A Hercules C-130J military aircraft carrier will be accompanied by up to 55 individuals, including a logistics team and security personnel. U.S. Special Operations Command signs contract for the Carl-Gustaf weapon system
 
Defence and security company Saab has signed a new framework contract with the USSOCOM for the company’s Carl-Gustaf man-portable weapon system (in the US named MAAWS; Multi-role, Anti-armor Anti-Personnel Weapon System). The contract is a follow on agreement to a previous 5 year contract for the 84mm recoilless rifle system. In connection with award of the contract, USSOCOM issued an initial order with a value of MSEK 99 ($14.3 million).
