US AN/TWQ-1 Avenger air defense systems now in service with Ukrainian army

According to mil.in.ua website, the Ukrainian air defense forces have strengthened the AN/TWQ-1 Avenger self-propelled anti-aircraft missile systems. Footage of these systems and the Ukrainian military was shown by analysts from Ukraine Weapons Tracker. This is the first footage of the recently transferred American short-range air defense system. In total, Ukraine is supposed to receive 12 such anti-aircraft missile systems from the United States. They arrived from the USA to the German port of Bremerhaven in the first half of February.

The AN/TWQ-1 Avenger is designed to hit air targets at altitudes of 0.5 to 3.8 km, and ranges of 0.5 to 5.5 km. The system is mounted on a Humvee chassis. Weapons: The primary weapon of the Avenger system is the FIM-92 Stinger missile, which is a man-portable air defense system (MANPADS). The Avenger carries eight Stinger missiles in two quad launchers. The system can also be armed with a .50 caliber heavy machine gun. Radar: The Avenger has a pulse-Doppler radar system, which provides target detection, tracking, and identification capabilities. The radar has a range of up to 25 km (15.5 miles). Crew: The Avenger system requires a crew of two: a driver and a gunner.

The AN/TWQ-1 Avenger system is designed to provide low-level air defense for ground units and can protect against a wide range of threats, including helicopters, UAVs, and fixed-wing aircraft. The system is widely used by the US military and has been exported to several other countries.

The use of relatively cheap and widespread missiles from the FIM-92 Stinger portable anti-aircraft missile system, which are massively supplied to Ukraine by Western partner countries, allows the Anveger to be quickly integrated into Ukrainian logistics and put on combat duty.
