The units of the State Border Service were reinforced with new ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns, Militarnyi reports. The DPSU said that the anti-aircraft guns are used to combat Russian barrage ammunition and other air targets. "The anti-aircraft guns will also be used to work on Russian DRGs, to destroy enemy personnel and equipment, including armored ones," the DPSU said.

The ZU-23-2 can fire up to 2,000 rounds per minute with armor-piercing, incendiary, tracer or high-explosive fragmentation ammunition. The border guards said that the anti-aircraft gun works effectively against targets at an altitude of up to 2 kilometers and at a distance of up to 2.5 kilometers. "Currently, it is mainly used to destroy Iranian-supplied Shaheds, reconnaissance drones, and other aerial targets," the border guards explained. The new ZU-23-2 will be used both separately in stationary positions and on trucks or other mobile platforms in combination with various means of target detection and guidance.

The newly formed anti-aircraft gun crews underwent the necessary training and are now on combat duty. The DPSU did not specify which company developed the new ZU-23-2. Presumably, Ukrainian border guards were supplied with Polish-made ZU-23-2CP manufactured by Zakłady Mechaniczne Tarnów, which is part of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ). The ZU-23-2CP provides target damage with 23-mm armor-piercing and incendiary tracer (HEI-T), armor-piercing and subcaliber tracer (APDS-T and FAPDS-T) ammunition.
