As previously reported, the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy together with enterprises of the fuel and energy industry of Ukraine, have purchased M113 armored personnel carriers for the “Steel Border” brigade. The vehicles were purchased in « a European country » (which happens to be Belgium, where they had been refurbished and somewhat modernized by John Cockerill Defense).

23 enterprises contributed to help the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine in the purchase of armored vehicles. These are, in particular, the companies of the nuclear, oil and gas, electricity and coal industries, as well as the companies of the distribution system operators and the gas transmission system.

Belgian Minister of Defense, Ludivine Dedonder, on September 15 announced that "To date, our country has already provided 280 million euros in military aid to Ukraine. For example, the Belgian Defense started a collaboration some time ago with the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and the Belgian defense industry for the renovation and modernization of 40 M113 armored personnel carriers (…). Today, the first batch of 10 M113 vehicles has been completed and will be transported to Ukraine in the near future. The remaining vehicles will also be ready for transport to Ukraine in the near future".

The Belgian company John Cockerill Defense (JCD) keeps completing the refurbishing and upgrade of M113s decommissioned by a European Army.
