Russian VVO tank crews learn new conduct of combat techniques in Buryatia

Tank crews of the combined-arms army of the Eastern Military District (VVO) deployed in the Republic of Buryatia have begun the first weapons training exercises involving standard shells in the summer training period at Burduny range, VVO’s press service said.

"Servicemen of the district’s motorized rifle formation used the ‘tank carousel’ tactic to block a maneuver of the conditional adversary. T-72B tank crews used the experience gained in modern armed conflicts during field firing. They used the so-called ‘Syrian ramparts’, which had been created at the Burduny range before the start of the new training period, for the first time," VVO said.

The tank crews hit targets, which were simulating tanks and the accompanying light armored pickups with mounted anti-tank systems of the conditional adversary that were trying to change their fire positions. The tank operators fired from 125 mm tank guns and machine guns at appearing targets at distances ranging from 700 to 1,500 meters. "Tank carousels" enabled them to wage continuous and uninterrupted fire at the conditional adversary’s units depriving them of a possibility to carry out a tactical maneuver. The tank drivers trained to drive tanks on impassible cross-country terrain and overcome various barriers.

The tank crews had taken a theoretical course to learn to operate modern tanks ahead of the practical exercises. Each crew studied tactical and technical characteristics and capabilities of modern tanks. They used multimedia tank simulators to learn to drive tanks in various climatic conditions and fire at dynamic armored targets.
