The Ukrainian self-propelled howitzer Bohdana is being produced in two different chassis variants, with the aim of accelerating the manufacturing and deployment of this artillery system within the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It had previously been reported that one version of the Bohdana is based on the MAZ-6317 chassis, while the other uses the Tatra T815-7. The original version was based on the "KrAZ" chassis. The "Bogdana" self-propelled howitzer is already being delivered to the Ukrainian Armed Forces and is actively participating in combat operations, as previously reported on Army Recognition on September 4th. Although the exact number of units produced remains confidential, it is emphasized that production is set to increase.
The 2S22 Bohdana, in all its iterations, is a 155mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer based on a 6x6 truck chassis. Originating in Ukraine, this vehicle was designed and developed in accordance with NATO standards, including the gun control system and the truck carrier. Its layout features an armored cabin at the front and the artillery gun system at the rear, providing protection against small arms fire and artillery shell fragments while accommodating a crew of up to five members.
The primary armament of the 2S22 Bohdana consists of a single 155mm NATO standard cannon located at the rear of the truck chassis. This cannon is capable of firing High-explosive incendiary/armor-piercing ammunition (HEIAP) with a range of 35 to 40 km, as well as Rocket-assisted projectiles (RAP) with an extended range of 45 to 60 km. It can achieve a maximum rate of fire of 6 rounds per minute, with the truck capable of carrying a total of 20 rounds of ammunition, along with associated charges stored in containers located on each side of the truck chassis.
At the same time, information emerged that Kyiv is offering the Bohdana to foreign buyers, with hopes of generating international interest and orders. For potential foreign customers, Kyiv has proposed the "Bohdana 3.0" based on the chassis of the Czech four-axle truck Tatra T815 8×8.
