Discovery of Milosh V2 Unmanned Ground Vehicle from Serbia


During the Partner 2023 expo, Serbia unveiled a new Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV). The Milosh V2 UGV is presented by the Military Technical Institute under the auspices of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Serbia. This remotely controlled vehicle is primarily designed for the destruction and neutralization of infantry targets and light armored vehicles. It accomplishes this through its 12.7mm automatic machine gun, capable of engaging targets at distances up to 1,200m.

Since the conflict in Ukraine, unmanned vehicles — whether in the air, on land, or at sea — have seen increased development due to their successful performance on the battlefield. During Partner 2023, Serbia is showcasing UAVs as well as the new UGV, Milosh 2.

The Milosh 1, also known as "Little Miloš," was the predecessor to the Milosh 2 and was developed by the Military Technical Institute of Serbia. Unlike the Milosh 2, the Milosh 1 was lighter with a total weight of around 680 kg and slightly smaller dimensions. It was armed with a 7.62mm M86 machine gun and a 40mm RBG grenade launcher. The combat station of the Milosh 1 could rotate 360° at speeds ranging from 0.05° per second to 48° per second, and its elevation varied between -15° and 50°.

In terms of protection, the Milosh 1 offered STANAG 4569 Level I protection and could withstand hits from 7.62mm rounds. For observation and control, it was equipped with a daytime CCD camera with a continuous zoom of up to 30x, a night vision-thermal camera with a digital zoom of up to 4x, and a laser range finder with a range of up to 2,000 meters.

On the other hand, the Milosh 2 is heavier and more advanced, with better autonomy and more sophisticated weapon systems. It is equipped with more advanced sensors and cameras, making it more suitable for a variety of military and security missions. It is also faster, has a greater payload capacity, and its undercarriage has been modified from 4 wheels to 5.

The Milosh V2 is a tracked vehicle that can reach speeds up to 15km/h and has the ability to turn on a zero radius, making it highly effective in confined spaces. The total weight of the vehicle is 950 kg, and it can operate for up to 4 hours on a single charge. In terms of dimensions, the Milosh V2 measures 1,870mm in length, 960mm in width, and 950mm in height.

The vehicle is equipped with a gyro-stabilized Remote Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS), allowing it to fire while moving. In addition to the 12.7mm M87 automatic machine gun, the turret can also accommodate a 90mm M79 anti-tank launcher. The turret's movement varies from 0.05°/s to 60°/s in rotation and 0.05°/s to 40°/s in elevation. The turret can be wirelessly controlled.

The Milosh V2 is equipped with a daytime CCD camera with continuous zoom capabilities. For operations in low-light conditions, it is equipped with a night/thermal camera with digital zoom. Additionally, a laser range finder (LRF) is integrated into the system, capable of measuring distances up to 3km.

The improvements to the Milosh make it heavier but enhance all other aspects of the vehicle. Serbia is thus also developing a new, modern UGV.
