The total cost of the new assets is staggering, amounting to 1,481,342,545.45 Philippine Pesos or nearly 25 million euros. The equipment includes marked light transport vehicles, 4x4 personnel carriers, single-cabin 4x2 patrol jeeps, and other tactical gear, including enhanced combat helmets and multipurpose vests. The procurement was managed by the National Headquarters Bids and Awards Committee and funded by the 2022 and 2023 Capability Enhancement Programs.

A particular point of interest in this acquisition involves the 5,755 basic 5.56 mm caliber assault rifles, specifically the Korean DSAR15 models. The DSAR15 is a Korean assault rifle that is part of the new acquisitions of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in their recent capability enhancement program. This rifle was chosen for its impressive technical features and reliability, but what makes this rifle truly unique? Why was it selected as one of the main pieces of equipment in this massive PNP upgrade?

Technically, the DSAR15 is a gas-piston assault rifle with a rotating bolt, which allows for more stable and reliable shooting even in challenging conditions. The rifle uses 5.56 × 45 mm NATO cartridges, offering a good balance between range and firepower. The DSAR15 weighs approximately 6.5 pounds (2.9 kg), making it relatively light and maneuverable for extended operations.

The rifle has an effective range of up to 600 meters, making it suitable for a variety of scenarios, from close combat to medium range. The magazine capacity is 30 rounds, and it is designed to be easily detachable, allowing for quick reloading in combat situations. Its modular design also allows for easy customization, including the addition of scopes, tactical lights, and other accessories.

The DSAR15 was initially designed to meet the needs of special forces and has undergone numerous rigorous tests and evaluations before being deployed on a larger scale. Its versatility and robustness were particularly appreciated during deployments in various operational theaters, from deserts to urban environments. These factors have contributed to its adoption not only by the Korean armed forces but also by various other units worldwide, including now the Philippine National Police.

In his speech, General Acorda Jr. expressed his gratitude to both the National Headquarters Bids and Awards Committee and the national government, emphasizing the importance of these new acquisitions. "These acquisitions are not mere tools," he remarked. "They are the instruments that empower us to fulfill our duty effectively to protect and serve the Filipino people."

The PNP Chief also cited recent statements from President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., confirming that the national government would continue to support the PNP's modernization with the latest technology, training, and resources. In conclusion, General Acorda reminded all PNP personnel to use these resources responsibly and professionally, as these items carry the trust and expectations of the Filipino people.
