According to Gokhan Ergocun from Anadolu, the Turkish air defense system, Siper, hit a long-distance target in the final test on May 12 before its official launch. The Siper project is led by Türkiye's defense giants Aselsan and Roketsan.

Siper is a long-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) air defense system designed to defend against any type of airborne threat: aircraft, cruise missiles, air-to-ground missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). It was jointly developed in Türkiye by the companies Roketsan, Aselsan and the research institute Tübitak Sage.
This project was launched by the Turkish Defence Industries Presidency (SSB) in 2018. Roketsan developed the missile, while most of the sensors and electronics have been developed by Aselsan. The system is capable of fighting aircraft, cruise missiles, air-to-ground missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). Siper is expected to rival Russia's S-400 missile system.
During the first firing test, which took place at the test range in Sinop, northern Turkey in December 2022, the Siper Block 1 missile system successfully demonstrated the ability to detect, track and hit a high-speed target aircraft at a range exceeding 100 km (62 mi). It has multi-target and multi-radar fusion features and it can identify friend or foe. It was announced that Siper would be put into service within 2023.
Türkiye has been actively involved in developing and acquiring various air defense systems to enhance its national defense capabilities: besides Siper, which is expected to rival Russia's S-400, Türkiye has also developed the Korkut, Sungur and Hisar air defense systems. Additionally, the country has been working on indigenous air defense systems such as the Hisar-A and Hisar-O, which are medium and short-range surface-to-air missile systems.
