DGA delivers first capacity of Cerbere training system to French army

The contract for the Cerbere program (centre d’entraînement représentatif des espaces de bataille et de restitution des engagements, training center representative of battlefields and engagement simulation) was notified by the DGA to the industrial group made up of Thales and RUAG Defense France on December 30, 2016. In 2023, thanks to Cerbere, Centac and Cenzub will each be able to simultaneously train three SGTIAs (Sous-Groupements Tactiques Inter-Armes , Tactical Inter-Arms Sub-Groups) equipped with simulation instruments and action monitoring sensors, respectively over an open area covering 120 km² and over an urban area representative of a city of 3,000 inhabitants.

96-hour training rotations will place SGTIAs in realistic combined arms combat situations against an adversary that can span multiple scenario types, ranging from asymmetric force to high-intensity confrontation against an organized and capable enemy. advanced equipment. Up to 1,000 fighters and 250 vehicles will thus be able to evolve without interruption during an intense combat sequence in order to test men and equipment. The Army will thus have a training and assessment capacity of 120 SGTIAs per year, directly contributing to strengthening their preparation for employment in operations.

Cerbere allows to prepare, conduct, animate and analyze the SGTIA exercises:
• Prepare: thanks to the logistical management functionalities of Cerbere equipment, for equipping units at the start of the exercise (equipment of combatants and vehicles with combat fire simulators and Cerbere geolocation systems);
• Driving: thanks to the geolocation of all the players in the field (including inside buildings) and the recording of tactical radio networks, the instructors have a detailed monitoring in real time of the trainings implementing all the capacities operational resources available to the units;
• Animate: thanks to the integration of combat fire simulators (including a new generation for weapons such as assault rifles and light machine guns), functions for simulating artillery fire, mines or IED and the functions sound and visual animation of the battlefield, Cerbere immerses the trainees in an extremely realistic environment;
• Analyze: an innovative educational tool, Cerbere allows center instructors to benefit from powerful tools for analyzing the maneuver of units and events. They can thus illustrate their after-action analyzes, for the benefit of the tactical leaders of the trained units.

Cerbere will be the tactical field training tool for Scorpion units: capable of accommodating Scorpion craft, it is expected to interface with SICS (système d’information du combat scorpion) by 2023, and will be predisposed to host Contact. The taking into account of collaborative combat will be gradual, depending on the deployment of this capability within the new Scorpion machines.
