The QBZ-192 assault rifle is part of the 20-style family of weapons, a collection introduced around 2020. This series encompasses a range of weapons, from pistols and submachine guns to heavy machine guns and sniper rifles. The QBZ-192, in particular, shares many features with the standard QBZ-191 assault rifle, with the barrel length being a primary difference. This rifle, known for its efficiency, compactness, and versatility, is tailored to meet the demands of modern warfare. It made its debut during the 2019 National Day military parade, with several special forces units showcasing it.

Designed for the 5.8 x 42 mm caliber, it weighs approximately 3 kg when unloaded. Its adjustable design allows the user to modify its length based on their needs. With the stock extended, the rifle measures about 900mm, but when the stock is collapsed, its size reduces to about 670mm.

The QBZ-192's barrel, with a length of 267mm, is designed to provide precision and efficiency in short to medium-range engagements. The rifle's cyclic rate of fire reaches around 750 shots per minute. In real combat situations, the practical rate of fire ranges between 40 and 100 shots per minute, allowing the user to strike a balance between accuracy and firepower. Its magazine can hold up to 30 rounds. In terms of range, the QBZ-192 is effective up to 300 meters, making it ideal for most ground combat scenarios.

The introduction of both the QBZ-192 and QBZ-191 highlights the nuanced approach to weapon design, catering to the unique tactical requirements of different military factions. Special forces, due to their distinct missions and contexts, often require lighter and more compact weapons. The QBZ-192's design, with its shorter barrel, is perfect for close combat, urban warfare, and firing from vehicles. Its design is also beneficial for covert operations that use stealthy modes of transport, such as helicopters or light armored vehicles. Modern advancements in ammunition, materials, and muzzle devices have mitigated the traditional limitations of shorter barrels, ensuring their efficacy in current combat scenarios.

An intriguing aspect of the Armed Police's new gear is the 'Ink and Cloud' camouflage pattern. This design cleverly integrates miniature versions of the Chinese map, which will undoubtedly frustrate some. The inclusion of the QBZ-192 in the arsenal of the Armed Police Special Forces in Xinjiang signifies China's intent to assert its presence in a region often contested, where its conflict with the Uighur minorities remains ongoing.
