Description

The Pandur II is a wheeled armored vehicle that was developed by the Austrian company Steyr-Daimler-Puch Spezialfahrzeuge which is now part of General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS). Based on its experience in the design, development, and production of the Pandur 1 (6 × 6) family of light armored vehicles Steyr-Daimler-Puch Spezialfahrzeug has developed the enhanced Pandur II family as a private venture. In 2006, General Dynamics announced that the Czech Republic has selected its European Land Combat Systems subsidiary Steyr-Daimler-Puch Spezialfahrzeug GmbH of Austria to supply its army with 199 new eight-wheeled Pandur II armored personnel carriers (APCs) between 2007-2012. The first version of the Pandur II was designed as IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) and can be configured in a 6x6 or 8x8 configuration. Other variants are also available including command post, anti-tank guided weapon carrier, forward observer vehicle, battlefield ambulance, engineer, and armored recovery vehicles. The Pandur II is now in service with Austria, the Czech Republic, Indonesia, and Portugal. The Pandur II is now produced under license in Czech Republic by Tatra Defense Vehicle and Excalibur Army.

The Pandur II can be configured as an armored personnel carrier, Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV), command post, recovery, medical evacuation, anti-tank missile launcher, signal, and reconnaissance vehicles.


Technical Data

Armament
The main armament of the Pandur 2 IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) RCWS-30 includes a 30mm ATK Bushmaster Mk.44 cannon, a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun, and two launcher Spike-LR multi-purpose missiles, as well as various thermal sensors, other optics, and defensive systems. The system is equipped with a 3rd generation fire control system with an observation day and night system compatible with the SPIKE requirements, stabilization system, and an automatic tracker system for fire on the move capability. In addition the RCWS-30 can be enslaved to any external director.
Design and protection
The overall layout of the Pandur II family is similar to that of the original Pandur with the driver seated at the front left with the power pack to his immediate right. The hull of the Pandur II CZ M1 is of all-welded steel armor construction that provides the occupants with full protection against 7.62 mm armor-piercing (AP) attack through a full 360º. The hull is provided with special protection against mines and the troop seats hang from the hull sides rather than being attached to the floor. The all-welded hull of the vehicle can be upgraded with additional armor to provide protection up to Level 4 STANAG 4569 against the firing of small arms 14.5 mm caliber and mine protection of 10 kg TNT blast explosion under the body and the wheels of the vehicle. In APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) version, the Pandur II can accommodate up to 14 military personnel including driver, commander, and gunner. The vehicle can be equipped with a wide range of weapon stations that can be armed with automatic cannon up to 40mm caliber or 105mm gun. 
Mobility
The Pandur II is powered by a Cummins ISC 350 hp diesel developing 355 hp (with an option of 400 hp model) at 2,000 rpm coupled to a ZF 6HP 602C fully automatic transmission. The Pandur II CZ M1 is an 8x8 armored personnel carrier, all wheels have an independent suspension system, and the driveline and steering linkages are within the armored hull. In option, the Pandur II can be fitted with an amphibious kit including two water jets mounted at the rear of the hull and a hydraulically operated trim vane mounted at the front of the chassis. In the water, the vehicle can reach a maximum speed of 10 km/h.
Accessories
Standard equipment for the Pandur II series includes steering on front two axles, independent suspension, central tire inflation system, run-flat elements, disc brakes, anti-skid braking system, Automatic Drivetrain Management (ADM) system, electronic engine management, and a self-recovery winch. The Pandur II CZ M1 is fully amphibious.
