ANKA III.

The ANKA III is a turbofan-powered, low-observable unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ/TAI) for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), precision strike, electronic warfare, air-to-air missions and collaborative operations with other air platforms. Built around a tailless flying-wing/delta configuration, the aircraft combines internal weapons carriage, high-subsonic performance, manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T), AI-enabled swarm functions and a modular mission architecture. ANKA III combines a 7,250 kg maximum take-off weight with a 1,600 kg payload capacity, reaching speeds of up to Mach 0.7 and operating at altitudes of up to 40,000 ft. Its mission profile provides a combat radius of up to 1,075 km in air-to-air configuration and 750 km in air-to-ground configuration, underlining its design for long-range, high-subsonic multirole combat operations.

Description
ANKA III represents Turkish Aerospace's jet-powered combat UAV branch and differs fundamentally from the propeller-driven ANKA and AKSUNGUR families. The aircraft made its maiden flight on 28 December 2023, remaining airborne for 1 hour 10 minutes, reaching 8,000 ft and 150 kt, and conducting a missed-approach test during the sortie. A second prototype subsequently joined the flight-test campaign.
The aircraft is designed as a multirole platform for reconnaissance, surveillance, intelligence, air-to-ground attack, air-to-air missions and electronic warfare. Its official mission architecture includes EOTS, AESA radar and IRST, while the electronic-warfare mission set encompasses COMINT, ELINT, ESM and electronic attack. The platform also incorporates low radar observability, internal and external weapons carriage, MUM-T and AI-supported swarm technology.
ANKA III's weapons-development campaign has moved into live-fire testing. Turkish Aerospace has confirmed successful use of the ROKETSAN TEBER-82 guided bomb and ASELSAN TOLUN, while Türkiye's Presidency of Defence Industries has confirmed a successful strike with the ASELSAN LGK-82. TOLUN has also been released from an internal weapons bay. In addition, ANKA III has demonstrated airborne release of the Süper Şimşek high-subsonic unmanned system.
Flight testing is also addressing collaborative unmanned operations. In March 2025, two ANKA III prototypes were controlled during the same flight from a single ground station, completing the first phase of a capability intended to support future swarm operations. The programme is meanwhile evolving toward a revised serial-production configuration. In July 2026, reporting based on statements by TUSAŞ CEO Mehmet Demiroğlu indicated a slightly larger production aircraft, increased endurance and range, further low-observable refinements and payload capacity rising to approximately 1.7 tonnes, with the production iteration's first flight targeted for the first quarter of 2027.
ANKA III has evolved through successive development configurations as Turkish Aerospace has refined the platform toward its production standard. The latest stated configuration measures 8.9 m in length, 13.1 m in wingspan and 2.6 m in height, with a 7,250 kg maximum take-off weight and 1,600 kg payload capacity. Earlier development-stage specifications referred to a smaller 7.9 m-long, 12.5 m-span and 2.5 m-high configuration with a 6,500 kg MTOW and 1,200 kg payload capacity, reflecting the aircraft's progressive increase in size, payload and overall mission capability as the programme matured.
Technical Data
-
Design and Architecture
ANKA III uses a tailless flying-wing/delta aerodynamic configuration designed around reduced radar observability and high-subsonic performance. Internal weapons carriage allows combat stores to be carried without relying exclusively on external pylons, while external stations provide additional payload flexibility when low-observable configuration is not the overriding requirement. The aircraft shares avionics architecture and ground-system elements with ANKA and AKSUNGUR and incorporates MUM-T and AI-enabled swarm technologies. Turkish Aerospace additionally identifies two internal and five external payload stations on its published configuration.
-
Armament and Payloads
ANKA III supports both internal and external weapons carriage and is designed for air-to-ground and air-to-air missions. The official technical baseline identifies laser-, IIR- and INS/GPS-guided air-to-ground weapons, together with IIR- and radar-guided air-to-air weapons. Turkish Aerospace states that each of the two internal weapon stations can accommodate up to 650 kg, with up to 650 kg on each inner external station and 100 kg on each outer external station, depending on configuration. Demonstrated weapons include TEBER-82, TOLUN and LGK-82, while Süper Şimşek has been demonstrated as an air-launched unmanned payload.
-
Propulsion and Flight Performance
ANKA III is powered by a single turbofan engine and is designed for high-subsonic flight. The supplied official technical baseline gives a maximum speed of Mach 0.7 at 30,000 ft, a 40,000 ft service ceiling, a 1,075 km combat radius in air-to-air configuration and a 750 km combat radius in air-to-ground configuration. Turkish Aerospace's website separately lists a cruise speed of 250 kt / Mach 0.42 at 30,000 ft and endurance of 10 hours at 30,000 ft for an earlier configuration. The production iteration has subsequently been described as having increased endurance and range, although revised figures have not been publicly disclosed. SSB has identified the indigenous TF6000 as a future powerplant intended for ANKA III after completion of its development and testing.
-
Avionics, Autonomy and Onboard Systems
ANKA III combines a common avionics and ground-system architecture with the wider ANKA family with advanced mission, sensing and collaborative-control functions. Its official mission payload set includes EOTS, AESA radar and IRST, together with COMINT, ELINT, ESM and electronic-attack capabilities. Turkish Aerospace additionally lists EO/IR, SAR/GMTI-ISAR radar, satellite communications and radio-relay functions on its current platform page. MUM-T and AI-enabled swarm technology form part of the official architecture, while the successful control of two prototypes from one ground station has provided a flight-demonstrated foundation for future multi-aircraft and swarm operations.
