Almaz-Antey from Russia offers to upgrade SA-8B Gecko air defense system of Armenian army.
Russian air defense (AD) system manufacturer Almaz-Antey has unveiled AD missile system repair and upgrade services during the ArmHiTec 2016 show in the Armenian capital of Yerevan, the corporation’s press office has told journalists.

During the show, Russian Company Almaz-Antey has offered its services for hardware repair, including the replacement of the electronic componentry and upgrade of the Osa-AK (NATO reporting name: SA-8B "Gecko Mod-0) AD missile systems to Osa-AKM (SA-8B Gecko Mod 1) standard, the ZSU-23-4 antiaircraft gun to the ZSU-23-4M4 version and the Tunguska (SA-19 Grison) anti-air missile/gun system to the Tunguska-M1 variant," said the press office.

In addition, the manufacturer has displayed its S-400 Triumph (SA-21 Growler) and Antey-2500 (SA-23 Gladiator/Giant) long-range surface-to-air missile systems and the shorter-range Buk-M2E (SA-17 Grizzly), Tor-M2E (SA-15 Gauntlet), Osa-AKM1 and Tunguska-M1 as models and posters.

The ArmHiTec 2016 forum was held in the YerevanExpo exhibition center. Its organizers were the Armenian Defense Ministry, Yerevan Mathematical Machines Plant and Bison Exhibition Companies Group.

The SA-8 Gecko NATO code name (Russian name 9K33 OSA) is a russian made highly mobile, low-altitude, short-range tactical surface-to-air missile system. The 9K33M3 "OSA-AKM" was introduced in 1980 with the maximum range extended to 15 km and maximum altitude to 12 km as explained above. Most OSA-AKM systems also feature an IFF antenna.

The SA-8 Gecko is armed with 6 missiles ready to fire, mounted on the roff of the vehicle. Missile is tracked by radio-command guiding system. Loading platform can carry from 2 to 6 guided missiles. Engagement range for the SA-8 Gecko missile is approximately 2–9 km and engagement altitudes of between 50–5000 m. The 9M33M2 "Osa-A" missile extends the ranges out to 1,500 - 10,000m and engagement altitudes to 25 – 5,000 m.
