New German GMARS Rocket Launcher Doubles Firepower Over U.S. HIMARS.
The powerful new German-made rocket launcher called GMARS has been unveiled, and it pushes the U.S. HIMARS design to the next level. With double the missile capacity and future cruise missile potential, it represents a major leap in rocket artillery.

The U.S. M142 HIMARS MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) is known for carrying a single pod with six rockets or one ATACMS tactical missile. GMARS upgrades this by mounting two pods, packing 12 rockets or two ATACMS in a single vehicle. That instantly doubles the firepower compared to HIMARS.
The system’s design does not just add rockets, it also improves mobility. U.S. HIMARS is built on a 6x6 truck chassis, while German GMARS uses a larger 8x8 platform. The heavier chassis supports the dual-pod system and gives GMARS better off-road capability, which is a key advantage in modern battlefield conditions.
Another major development is the planned ability of GMARS to launch cruise missiles. Although not yet operational, this upgrade is expected around 2027. If completed, it would give GMARS deep-strike capability far beyond the current range of HIMARS.
By combining heavier firepower, better mobility, and future cruise missile integration, GMARS could become one of the most advanced rocket artillery systems in service. In an era where long-range precision strikes are decisive, GMARS positions itself as a true game-changer.
