IDET 2025: Turra 30 Turret Transforms Rheinmetall's Boxer 8x8 into a Multirole Assault Platform.
Unveiled at IDET 2025 in Brno, Czech Republic, Rheinmetall presented a new Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) configuration of its Boxer 8x8 armoured vehicle platform, equipped with the remote-controlled Turra 30 V10 turret developed by Slovak defense company EVPU. This new demonstrator highlights Rheinmetall’s commitment to adapting the Boxer to modern combat requirements by combining a battle-proven platform with a lethal, modular weapon system. While not targeted at the Czech or Slovak armies, which operate the Pandur and Patria AMV XP, respectively, this version demonstrates its export potential for future customers in search of advanced multirole ground systems.

The Boxer is a highly mobile 8x8 wheeled armoured vehicle designed around a modular architecture that allows for the integration of user-specific mission modules. It consists of a common drive module and an interchangeable mission module, enabling rapid reconfiguration for diverse operational roles. The platform supports a wide range of variants such as troop carriers, ambulances, command posts, combat engineering vehicles, and now, infantry fighting vehicles. So far, nearly 30 different variants have been developed and introduced across seven nations, with approximately 1,800 Boxer vehicles currently under contract worldwide. Its high mobility, battlefield survivability, logistical efficiency, and ease of maintenance make it a low life-cycle cost solution adaptable to both conventional and asymmetrical operations.
The IFV version presented at IDET 2025 features the Turra 30 V10 turret, a versatile and compact medium-calibre remote weapon station. Specifically designed for armoured wheeled vehicles, the Turra 30 is equipped with a 30 mm automatic cannon, a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun, and launchers for Spike LR or LR2 anti-tank guided missiles. The turret supports a full hunter-killer capability thanks to independent electro-optical sights for both gunner and commander, allowing for simultaneous target acquisition and engagement. The system is protected by a lightweight composite armour and can optionally be integrated with the HARPIA active protection system, which uses radar and AI algorithms to detect and neutralize incoming threats such as guided missiles and UAVs. The turret can also host the VIPER drone launcher, expanding its reconnaissance and loitering munition capabilities.
Integrating the Turra 30 V10 onto the Boxer chassis demonstrates the exceptional flexibility and adaptability of the Boxer platform. Designed for high strategic and tactical mobility, the Boxer features an MTU diesel engine delivering 530 kW, allowing the vehicle to reach speeds of up to 103 km/h and travel over 1,000 km without refueling. With a maximum gross vehicle weight of 38.5 tonnes and a payload capacity of up to 8 tonnes, the Boxer can carry advanced weapon systems and provide high protection levels in accordance with STANAG 4569 Level 4 standards for ballistic and mine threats. Its fully independent wheel suspension and modular powertrain ensure superior off-road performance across harsh terrains.
This integration provides forces with a truly multirole assault platform capable of rapid adaptation to mission demands. It allows armed forces to combine protected mobility, long-range firepower, and digital combat systems within a single vehicle, offering significant tactical advantages in scenarios ranging from peer conflict to rapid deployment and peace support operations.
