The new BM-3M Storm-M remote controlled weapon system (RWS) can be installed on light-armoured vehicles or vessels. Alternatively it could be used as a static weapon system to protect military infrastructure. The RWS features a 30mm ZTM-1 (2A72) cannon with 400 rounds. It is complemented by a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun and a 30mm AG-17 automatic grenade launcher.

The new RWS is controlled by the newly developed Kashtan fire-control system, according to NATO standards. With the use of various sensors and the laser rangefinder, it can detect targets at distances up to 8,000m during the day and 600-2,000m at night. More specifically, it could detect a BMP-sized target, at distances ranging between 500 and 4,000m in 15 seconds.

The sensors have been placed not at the side of the RWS but in the middle, closer to the gun, to increase its survivability. The sensors include a “Trek” TV camera and the panoramic optic “Panorama-2B”.

RWS BM-3M also features a multi-spectral smoke grenade launching system, produced by the Polish company Lubawa. Its stabilization is secured by electromechanical and digital stabilizer SVU-500-10R produced by PJSC RPA Kyiv Automatics Plant.
