Argentine armed forces took delivery of first batch of 35 Humvee tactical vehicles
The Argentine military received in February the first batch of tactical and utility vehicles acquired from surplus of the of the United States Armed Forces. This batch, which will be followed by two more, consisted of 35 vehicles HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, or Humvee) configured for troops transport. The HMMWV received are divided into three types: open, canvas cab and closed. These vehicles are the first of a total of 100 to be delivered in three batches.

In addition, a batch of 21 trailers for HMMWV is about to be delivered, along with 18 4x4 Ford 350 and 30 tactical trucks REO. These tactical trucks are ideal, inter alia, for the transport of vehicles.

With this new contract, the Argentine Government, which has already bought 134 HMMWV vehicles, intends to consolidate the process of replacement of its ageing fleet of tactical vehicles.

This plan, called "Operation Yaguareté", also includes the modernization of soldiers' personnal equipment, with a major procurement in China. China has already sent first batch of military equipment, which included tens of thousands of complete uniforms, harnesses and other infantry equipment.

In terms of individual equipment, modernization of weapons is pending. The Argentine government also seeks to launch upgrade project of the FAL assault rifle or the possibility of its replacement with a new rifle.
