PAC-3 rapid deployment exercise is intended to enhance tactical skills by checking the proficiency of transporting personnel and equipment, and of implementing the procedures for deployment so that PAC-3 can be promptly and smoothly set up at possible sites for deployment, the Japanese MoD writes on its Twitter account.

Since North Korea spectacularly blew up the (empty) inter-Korean Liaison Office located at Paju (North Korea) on June 16 and threatened to deploy troops and equipment in the Demilitarized Zone, the tension in the region has risen. Hence an exercise involving the Patriot air defense systems of the JSDF to ensure everything would work properly in case of an actual alert.
