"Modern Russian-made Takhion unmanned aerial vehicles have arrived for the UAV unit of the Southern Military District’s military base located in the Republic of Armenia," the press office said.

Russian servicemen will learn to operate new UAVs within a month at the Kamkhud and Alagyaz high-mountainous training ranges.

It was reported earlier that the Russian Armed Forces’ units based in Armenia had started learning to operate new Orlan-10 UAVs.

Modern Navodchik-2 and Orlan-10 systems operational in the units will allow them to increase the number of missions accomplished in high-mountainous areas in Armenia in the interests of reconnaissance and special units by five times.

All types of UAVs will be used during the current winter training period to reconnoiter, detect, identify and track ground targets in the course of tactical and special exercises at high-mountainous training ranges.

The Takhion UAV is designed to conduct reconnaissance 24 hours a day at a distance of up to 40 kilometers (25 miles).

The Takhion UAV can be equipped with a video, photo or infrared camera. It has a takeoff weight of about 25 kg and flight endurance of up to 6 hours.

The Takhion UAV can be used at a wide range of latitudes and temperatures and in strong winds.
