Russia's air defense troops to take delivery of modernized weapon systems by 2017
Russia will complete modernization of its Air Defence Forces by the end of 2016. The information was presented by the press service of the Russian Defence Ministry on Tuesday, January 13. Moreover, Russia's airborne units deployed in Ivanovo, Ulyanovsk and Novorossiysk have already received the latest antiaircraft missile systems.

The units and divisions of the Air Defence Forces will receive about 60% of modern weapons by the end of 2015. In particular, the troops will take delivery of new air defence systems with increased fire capabilities, compact low-altitude radar detectors and automated management tools with reconnaissance equipment. The modernization program is due to be implemented by the end of 2016,” the press service stated, noting that large-scale rearmament of the Air Defence Forces will be performed for the first time in the history of the troops.

Several air defense systems are currently in use in the Russian Air Defense Troops, such as the 9K35 Strela-10 (SA-13 Gropher) short-range low altitude SAM system, the 2S6 Tunguska 9K22 self-propelled anti-aircraft gun/SAM system, and the Pantsir-S1 (SA-22 Greyhound) air defense missile gun system.
