Over several decades, Nexter has established a relationship of trust with the United Arab Emirates, symbolised by the signing of the Leclerc MBT contract in 1993. With two offices in the Middle-East, Nexter has a presence on the ground which makes daily contact with UAE forces easier and ensures the sustainability of the Group’s relations in the country.

The VBCI is the latest generation of 8x8 armoured infantry fighting vehicle designed and manufactured by the French Company Nexter Systems and Renault Trucks Defense. The VBCI is now the backbone of the French army mechanized units and it has replaced the AMX-10P tracked armoured vehicle which is in service with the French army since 1973.

Its main role is to transport infantrymen to the combat area providing a high level of protection and combat support and also support Leclerc type battle tanks, in demanding environments such as urban and desert areas.

According French soldiers, during the deployment of the VBCI in Afghanistan and Mali, the armour design of the vehicle has proven effectiveness against firing of small arms but also against RPG (rocket-propelled grenade). In Afghanistan more than 15 rockets was fired against the VBCI without major damage to the vehicle and no injuries to the crew.

The VBCI is currently deployed in Lebanon, Mali and Central Africa by the French army.

The 40 CTAS is primarily aimed to equip armoured and reconnaissance vehicles in order to provide them with fire power superior to any other Medium-Calibre system.

The suite of ammunition developed in association with the weapon is designed to give increased effect against armoured vehicles including some previous generation main battle tanks, defeat of reinforced concrete, buildings and soft targets and suppression of dispersed troops.
