Finland would have delivered to Ukraine Sisu XA-180 6x6 armored vehicles


According to pictures released on the Twitter account of Ukraine Weapon Tracker on September 15, 2022, Ukraine would have received an undisclosed number of Finnish Sisu XA-180 6x6 armored personnel carriers. These are made in Finland and appear to have been donated from Finnish Military stocks.

No official information has been released by Finland regarding the delivery of these Sisu XA-180 armored vehicles to Ukraine. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Military aid approved by the Finnish Government is worth €88.16 million as of 4 July 2022. On August 8, 2022, the Finnish Defence Ministry announced it will send 20 soldiers to join the UK training of Ukrainian soldiers in Britain.

According to open source information, Finland has already delivered to Ukraine 23mm 23 ITK 61 'Sergei' (ZU-23) anti-aircraft weapon systems, 1,500 M72 man-portable anti-tank weapons, 12.7mm 12,7 ItKK 96 heavy machine guns, 2,500 assault rifles, 155mm artillery rounds and 150,000 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

The XA-180 is a 6x6 wheeled Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) vehicle designed and manufactured by the Finnish company Sisu, now part of Patria. The vehicle is based d on the Sisu SA-150 military truck and uses many identical automotive components.

The layout of the XA-180 is conventional for a wheeled APC with the engine located just behind the driver on the left-hand side with the troop compartment at the rear. The vehicle has a crew of two including a driver and commander located at the front of the hull and it can accommodate up to 10 infantrymen. The hull provides protection against the firing of small arms and artillery shell splinters. The roof of the XA-180 is armed with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun.

The Sisu XA-180 is powered by a Valmet 611 diesel engine, developing 236 hp. it can run at a maximum road speed of 100 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 800 km.
