On April 11, 2022, the Army Recognition editorial team reported that the United Kingdom approved the delivery of 120 armored vehicles to Ukraine following a meeting between Boris Johnson and Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.

According to information published by the Twitter account of Deborah Haynes security and defense editor at Sky News, on April 9, 2022, the armored vehicles the UK will be gifting Ukraine are understood to be Mastiff and Wolfhound wheeled Protected Patrol Vehicles, Husky wheeled tactical support vehicles and Spartan tracked APC Armored Personnel Carrier.

In recent weeks, pictures have been posted on social media showing the vehicles Mastiff and Husky used by Ukrainian armed forces. With these new pictures, we can confirm that the Spartan APCs (Armored Personnel Carrier) tracked vehicles donated by England have arrived in Ukraine.

The Spartan is a member of the CVRT vehicles, a family of tracked reconnaissance armored vehicles that entered into service with the British army in 1978. As an APC, it can carry up to seven personnel, including a driver, commander, gunner, and five infantrymen.

The hull of the Spartan is made of all-welded aluminum armor and provides the crew with protection against attack over its frontal area from 14.5 mm projectiles and against 7.62 mm armor-piercing rounds over the remainder of the vehicle. The aluminum armor is also particularly effective against shell splinters. The hull is divided into three compartments: driver's at the front on the left, powerpack at the front on the right, and the troop's compartment at the rear.

The Spartan is fitted with a single cupola mounted at the front left side of the hull armed with one a 7.62 mm machine gun which can be aimed and fired from inside the vehicle.

The Spartan is powered by a Cummins Diesel engine developing 195 hp. The vehicle can run at a maximum road speed of 80 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 483m. The vehicle has a combat weight of 10,670 kg.
