Romanian army inducts militarized Dacia Duster Commando 4x4 light vehicle

Equipped with light and partial armor, as well as a series of combat equipment, the Dacia Duster is now part of the Romanian army’s military fleet, Mustapha Zemri reports in Motors Actu. The newly militarized version of the Duster, nicknamed ‘Commando’, fully complies with all the latest NATO standards for light military vehicles.

Dacia’s engineers have made a number of mechanical improvements in addition to aesthetic improvements: protection grilles for the windscreen and windows, special protection for the gearbox and the engine, reinforced housing for the fuel tank, and much more.

In addition, the main features of the Duster ‘commandos’ include two key elements: The first concerns the possibility of installing, on the reinforced roof of the SUV, a 7.62 mm machine gun operated by a joystick from the front passenger seat. Moreover, if necessary, the Romanian manufacturer specifies that in record time, the 4 wheels of the car can be replaced by tracks produced by the local company ACF Tracks, which provides extraordinary mobility in off-road, such as Army Recognition may have experimented previously.

During the BSDA 2018 (Black Sea Defense and Aerospace) defense exhibition in Bucharest, Army Recognition had published information and photos on two interesting versions of the remarkable Dacia Duster produced in Romania: one was equipped with an RWCS armed with a 7.62mm machine gun, the other was equipped with quickly removable tracks by the company ACF Tracks set up in Brasov by French industrialist Pierre Levivier and his brother Nicolas.

As reported by Army Recognition, RomTurungia, a manufacturer of conversions and special adaptations ordered by Dacia in Romania, and UMB (Uzina Mecanica Bucuresti) developed this armed version of a Dacia 4x4 Duster on call for tenders from the Romanian army at the request of NATO. The whole work was conducted under the direction of Renault Technologie Roumanie (RTR). The project dates back to 2013, as indicated by the participation of a prototype in the National Day military parade.

More than 800 Dusters joined the Romanian army. Dacia does not hide its ambition to become a major player in the military industry and why not supply other military users at the European or global level.
