This security assistance package will provide Ukraine with new capabilities to boost its air defenses in addition to providing critical equipment that Ukraine is using so effectively to defend itself on the battlefield.

The new United States military aid package for Ukraine includes additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), 80,000 155mm artillery rounds, counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems equipment, counter air defense capability, High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs) Ambulances and medical equipment, approximately 150 generators and field equipment.

In total, the United States has committed $20 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the Biden Administration. Since 2014, the United States has committed approximately $22.1 billion in security assistance to Ukraine and more than $19.3 billion since the beginning of Russia's unprovoked and brutal invasion on February 24.

The delivery of 155mm artillery and rocket ammunition is vital for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, indeed, citing military open source information, Ukrainian armed forces fire thousands of 155mm artillery rounds every day to shell Russian forces, using self-propelled and towed howitzers supplied by the United States and its allies.

In the past, the Ukrainian Army only had equipment of Russian origin which used 152mm caliber ammunition but now they use European and American artillery systems that fire 155mm shells for which they had no stock. The delivery of ammunition is therefore very important for Ukraine in order to maintain pressure on the Russian forces.

It is the same for the HIMARS MLRSs (Multiple Launch Rocket System) delivered by the United States which have shown great effectiveness against Russian targets, and thanks to the accuracy of the MLRS the Ukrainian forces are able to destroy Russian tanks and artillery systems.

Since the beginning of the war, Ukraine has already received 108 M777 155mm towed howitzers, 12 PZH 2000 155mm self-propelled howitzers, 20 Dana 152mm 8x8 self-propelled howitzers, 18 CAESAR 155mm self-propelled howitzers based on a 6x6 truck chassis, 20 M109A3GN 155 self-propelled howitzers, 5 M114 155mm towed howitzers, an undisclosed number of FH-70 155mm towed howitzers, 18 Krab 155mm self-propelled howitzers, 8 Zuzana 2 8x8 wheeled 155mm self-propelled howitzers and 64 M109A4 155mm tracked self-propelled howitzers.
