"At the moment, Bumerang is successfully passing various stages of the test program. The trials are planned to be finished in 2016," Krasovitsky said.

He pointed out that Bumerang significantly differs from BTR-80, BTR-80A and BTR-82A armoured personnel carriers (APC) previously developed by the VPK company. "Bumerang AFV features advanced level of protection, offering more effective protection of the front hemisphere," Krasovitsky added.

Bumerang 8x8 armoured fighting vehicle was unveiled for the first time at Victory Day Parade on May 9, 2015. The new vehicle is supposed to replace the ageing BTR-80 APCs and to complement BTR-82A carriers. Bumerang can be equipped with remote controlled weapon station (RCWS), namely, Epokha developed by Tula-based Machine Design Bureau company (Russian acronym: KBP, a subsidiary of the High-Precision Weapons holding) or 6S21 developed by Burevestnik scientific-research institute (a subsidiary of the Uralvagonzavod company). Epokha is a heavy RCWS armed with 30mm 2A42 automatic gun, coaxial 7.62mm PKT/PKTM machinegun and four ready-to-launch 9M133 Kornet (NATO reporting name: AT-14 Spriggan) anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM). 6S21 is a light RCWS armed with 12.7mm 6P49 Kord machinegun.

The Bumerang`s engine is supposed to be located in the front-right part of the vehicle, the driver`s seat - in the front-left part. The AFV can swim owing to two screw-propellers located in the rear part of the vehicle. The manufacturer does not disclose the Bumerang`s protection level. It is supposed to armoured at STANAG 4569 6th level (protection against 30mm steel armour-piercing/tungsten alloy armour-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot rounds at 500 m distance).
