hAccording to the Military Informant VK account, the command version based on the Armata platform has been tested at the 38th Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. Two variants of the vehicles has been tested, but one the vehicle was fitted with an enhanced armor package consisting of two layers of ERA (Explosive Reactive Armor) mounted on ech side of the vehicle.

The BMP-KSh seems to be based on the T-15 BMP which is the IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle)variant in the Armata family. The turret has been removed and replaced by additional power supply equipment. The vehicle keeps the same armor consisting of a layer of concrete sandwiched between layers of steel, ceramic and composite materials, which offers a high level of protection against the firing of small arms and the blast of mine explosions. The top of the vehicle is also protected by integrated ERA (Explosive Reactive Armor).

As all the vehicle based on the Armata platform, the BMP-KSh is equipped with the "Afganit" active protection system including sensors and laser detection systems. This system is designed to defeat threats such as the rocket-propelled grenade and the anti-tank missile, including newer anti-tank missiles with longer ranges.
