In the meantime, Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov said that Ukrainian armed forces deployed Grad MLRS in Shevchenko Square in Kyiv to deliver strikes against the Hostomel airfield seized by Russian paratroopers.

The conquest of the Hostomel airfield was announced on Friday, February 25, 2022, by the chief spokesman of the Russian Defense Ministry, General-Major Igor Konashenkov. This could be a milestone in the battle for Kyiv.

The Battle of Antonov Airport, also known as the Battle of Hostomel Airport, was a battle that took place on 24 and 25 February 2022, during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Two waves of Russian forces attacked Antonov Airport in Hostomel. The first wave, consisting of Russian paratroopers, landed on 24 February and briefly occupied the airport before being defeated. The second wave, consisting of Russian ground forces advancing from Belarus, seized the airport after a skirmish on 25 February.

The airport is about 10 km from Kyiv, and BM-21 rockets are capable of hitting targets at a distance of more than 20 km.
