According to a picture released on the Russian Social Network "VK" the Ukrainian forces use captured BTR-82AT, the latest generation of Russian-made wheeled APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) in the BTR-82A family. The vehicle was displayed for the first time to the public in August 2021 during the Military Technical Forum Defense Exhibition near Moscow.

Since the start of the war in Ukraine, the Ukrainian army has captured a significant number of armored vehicles and tanks, which are often repaired and returned to service for use against Russian forces. Unverified figures published on the Internet suggest that the Ukrainian army has seized over 500 tanks belonging to the Russian army, as well as around 100 BTR-type armored vehicles.

The BTR-82 is a Russian armored personnel carrier (APC) developed in the late 2000s. It is an improved version of the BTR-80 APC, which was introduced in the 1980s. The BTR-82A is an upgraded version of the BTR-82 armored personnel carrier developed by the Russian defense industry in the early 2010s. The BTR-82A has several improvements over its predecessor, including enhanced armor protection, improved firepower, and better situational awareness.

The BTR-82AT is the latest generation of APC in the BTR-82A family, the design of the vehicle is similar to the previous version of the BTR-82A with the commander and driver seated at the front of the hull. A turret is mounted on the center of the roof hull and the troop's compartment is located at the rear of the hull.

The BTR-82AT is armed with a 30mm 2A72 automatic cannon and a 7.62mm PKTM coaxial machine gun, both of which are mounted on a remotely operated weapon station (ROWS). The ROWS is equipped with advanced targeting and surveillance systems, which allow the vehicle to engage targets with greater accuracy and at longer ranges. It can be also armed with two anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) launchers on both sides of the turret that can fire the 9M133M Konkurs-M missile capable of penetrating modern main battle tanks

Unlike the baseline BTR-82A, the BTR-82AT is fitted with the TKN-4GA sighting system with a thermal imager and stabilized field of view. The APC carries a 9K129 tripod-mounted anti-tank guided missile system for the 9M133 Kornet missile in its troop compartment.

The BTR-82AT is motorized with a KamAZ-740.14-300 Turbo Diesel Engine coupled to a manual transmission with 5 forward and 1 reverse gear. The vehicle can run at a maximum road speed of 75 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 600 km. The BTR-82AT is fully amphibious and propelled to the water at a maximum speed of 8 km/h thanks to a single water-jet mounted at the rear of the hull.
