Citing information from Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii, the Ukrainian armed forces will receive the first units of the locally-made 2S22 Bohdana 155mm self-propelled howitzers in the next few months. For several months, the only prototype of the Bohdana has been used in real combat conditions and has shown great efficiency.

On June 30, 2022, Army Recognition editorial team reported that the Ukrainian army targeted Russian forces on Snake Island using Ukrainian-made Bohdana 155mm self-propelled howitzer destroying Russian positions on the island with fire correction transmitted by a Bayraktar TB2 drone.

The 2S22 Bohdana is a truck-mounted 155mm self-propelled howitzer based on the military truck KrAZ-6322. The artillery is fully designed and manufactured in Ukraine by the company Kramatorsk Heavy Duty Machine Tool Building Plant. It was unveiled for the first time to the public in August 2018 during a military parade.

The design of the 2S22 Bohdana is very similar to the French CAESAR or the Israeli ATMOS wheeled self-propelled howitzers. It is based on a 6x6 truck chassis with an armored cabin at the front and the artillery gun system mounted at the rear.

The 2S22 Bohdana is armed with a 155mm caliber cannon able to fire all the standard NATO ammunition with a firing range of up to 42 km using HEIAP (High-Explosive Incendiary Armor-Piercing) ammunition and up to 50 km with artillery rocket-assisted projectiles.

The 2S22 Bohdana is equipped with modern aiming and fire control system including a computerized fire control system as well as a ballistic calculator, an automatic gun laying system, and a navigation system. Thanks to its navigation system the howitzer is able to establish its own location and engage targets more quickly. It is operated by a crew of five.

Thanks to the use of a KrAZ truck chassis, the 2S22 Bohdana offers a high level of mobility capabilities in road and off-road conditions. It can reach a top road speed of 80 km/ h with a cruising range of up to 1,000 km. can cross vertical steps of 0.7m and trenches of 1m, as well as negotiate grades of 60% and side slopes of 30%. It is capable of fording a maximum depth of 1.2m.
