DSEI 2025: How K3 SCOUT USV Sets a New Standard in Naval Surveillance Operations.
At the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2025 exhibition, Kraken Technology Group presents its uncrewed surface vessel K3 SCOUT, with both dynamic and static demonstrations conducted in cooperation with the UK Ministry of Defence. This participation reflects the company’s intent to strengthen its role in the field of autonomous maritime technologies and to consolidate its position with the United Kingdom and allied partners.

Based in Fareham, Kraken Technology Group develops uncrewed naval platforms. Already in use with the UK Ministry of Defence and several allied nations, the K3 SCOUT is considered the company’s flagship system. Measuring eight metres in length, the vessel reaches a maximum speed of 55 knots, carries a payload of 600 kilograms and covers up to 650 nautical miles. Its modular design allows adaptation to different mission profiles, making it a flexible system suited to current operational requirements.
During the exhibition, the K3 SCOUT is displayed on the UK Ministry of Defence’s static stand and also participates in live demonstrations at sea. These presentations highlight the vessel’s capacity to operate in real conditions and show its potential as an operational naval solution.
Kraken also announces a partnership with NVL, a company established in the European shipbuilding sector. This cooperation aims to increase Europe’s capacity to produce autonomous naval systems, secure supply chains, and enable the rapid delivery of modular, multi-role capabilities to allied forces. It forms part of a broader effort to support European industrial and technological sovereignty, particularly in the naval defence domain.
Mal Crease, founder and chief executive of Kraken Technology Group, states that participation in DSEI represents a key stage, with the K3 SCOUT placed at the centre of the company’s activities. He recalls successful trials conducted with the UK Ministry of Defence and points to the company’s growth, now counting more than one hundred employees and operating from a newly established multi-million-pound facility. He also refers to the support of the NATO Innovation Fund and the National Security Strategic Investment Fund, which provide additional backing for the company’s financial and strategic development.
From an operational perspective, the K3 SCOUT offers multiple capabilities designed to meet the needs of modern naval forces. Its speed and endurance allow it to conduct extended maritime surveillance missions, protect littoral zones, and track surface targets. Its modular design enables integration of different payloads, ranging from ISR sensors to mine countermeasure equipment or light logistic support. The vessel can also be incorporated into larger fleet operations, conduct autonomous patrols, or carry out reconnaissance in high-risk environments, thereby limiting the exposure of personnel. This operational versatility makes the K3 SCOUT suitable for a wide range of maritime security challenges.
With its industrial base in the United Kingdom and European partnerships, Kraken positions itself as a provider of autonomous naval systems for complex operational environments. The K3 SCOUT, through its performance and modular configuration, reflects this orientation by combining speed, endurance, and adaptability.
The presentation of the K3 SCOUT at DSEI 2025 confirms Kraken Technology Group’s focus on deploying autonomous naval systems at scale. Through its static and dynamic demonstrations in cooperation with the UK Ministry of Defence and its strategic partnership with NVL, the company underlines its aim to play a role in the development of autonomous maritime solutions. Supported by institutional funds and a strengthened national industrial base, Kraken continues its expansion strategy and the deployment of its systems with UK and allied partners.
