DSEI 2025: Nomad 4x4 Vehicle With Trakon 30 mm Turret Enhances Mobility And Decisive Firepower For Modern Armies.

During DSEI UK 2025 in London, NMS UK unveiled the Nomad 4x4 equipped with the Trakon 30 mm Remote-Controlled Weapon Station, marking an important evolution in the role of light armoured vehicles. Presented at one of the world’s leading defence exhibitions, DSEI UK 2025, the system reflects the growing demand for platforms that combine high mobility with greater lethality. The unveiling is particularly relevant as armed forces worldwide seek to adapt to hybrid threats where lighter vehicles must be able to deliver credible combat power. By showcasing this configuration, the UK industry signals its ambition to provide a modern response to contemporary battlefield requirements.

The Nomad 4x4 is a tactical armoured vehicle designed to balance mobility, protection, and modular firepower. By integrating the Trakon RCW armed with AEI Systems’ Venom LR 30×113 mm cannon, the platform delivers a higher level of firepower than most vehicles in its weight class, which are usually limited to heavy machine guns or grenade launchers. Equipped with advanced day-night optics and fire control, the system allows precision engagement of armoured targets, vehicles, and fortified positions while maintaining mobility in diverse terrains.

The Trakon 30 itself has been designed to fill the gap between heavy machine guns and the larger 30×173 mm autocannons typically reserved for infantry fighting vehicles. Built around the Venom LR revolver cannon, it integrates recoil mitigation technology that reduces stress on the host platform, making it compatible with lighter vehicles such as 4×4s, 6×6s, or MRAPs. With a capacity for both armour-piercing and high-explosive ammunition, as well as advanced electro-optical systems, the RCWS provides flexibility for a wide range of missions, from engaging light armour to suppressing drones or fortified positions. Unlike conventional turrets that impose high weight and recoil penalties, Trakon 30 offers a balanced solution, delivering superior lethality compared to 12.7 mm weapons while avoiding the logistical burden of larger calibre cannons. This combination of precision, firepower, and manageable integration makes it particularly suited for roles such as patrols, border security, convoy protection, and rapid reaction operations.

NMS UK operates as the British subsidiary of Nurol Makina, the Turkish defence company recognised for its extensive portfolio of wheeled armoured vehicles, including the Ejder Yalçın and the NMS 4x4. Building on this industrial heritage, NMS UK positions itself as a European leader in advanced protected mobility, delivering armoured vehicles for over 15 years to more than 20 armies worldwide. With expertise in PMV design, payload integration, and advanced armour technologies, the company offers best-in-class solutions through its Dragon, Nomad, and Lurcher vehicles. Using modular designs, it provides tailored solutions to ensure performance, durability, and reliability in the most demanding conditions. The Nomad benefits from this experience, offering a combination of advanced protection with scalable and composite armour, while maximising mobility and utility. Digital and network-ready, the vehicle has been designed to meet the demands of tomorrow’s battlefields.

The development of the Nomad follows a broader trend in Europe and beyond toward equipping light wheeled platforms with medium-calibre systems. Historically, many 4x4 armoured vehicles were primarily configured for troop transport or reconnaissance, offering limited offensive capacity. Comparable systems, such as the French Sherpa Light or Turkish Ejder Yalçın, have evolved to carry heavier weapons in response to changing operational realities. By introducing the Trakon 30 mm RCW, NMS UK demonstrates an incremental but significant step in bridging the gap between light reconnaissance vehicles and heavier infantry fighting vehicles.

Strategically, the system reflects a shift in military thinking as armed forces prepare for high-intensity operations while maintaining the flexibility for peacekeeping and counter-insurgency missions. For the UK, it reinforces the defence industry’s positioning as a provider of adaptable solutions for allied and export markets. Globally, it demonstrates the geopolitical trend toward lighter, more deployable platforms capable of delivering credible deterrence without the heavy footprint of tracked armour. This makes the Nomad a potential option for nations seeking to modernize forces quickly in an era marked by contested environments and limited resources.

The unveiling of the Nomad 4x4 with its Trakon 30 mm RCW at DSEI 2025 sends a clear message about the direction of modern armoured vehicle design: firepower and agility can no longer be considered mutually exclusive. By combining mobility, protection, and modular lethality, NMS UK, drawing on the experience and technological base of Nurol Makina, positions the Nomad as a symbol of how tomorrow’s armies intend to operate, fast, flexible, and equipped to respond decisively to evolving threats.
