DEFEA 2025: Kalyani Strategic Systems Brings Mobile Artillery and Autonomous Naval Systems To The Forefront.
At DEFEA 2025, held from May 6 to 8 in Athens, Greece, Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd. (KSSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharat Forge Ltd. and the flagship defense entity of the Kalyani Group, presents a complete range of military systems. This participation reflects the growing strategic partnership between India and Greece, with defense cooperation at its core. KSSL’s presence at the event underlines India's objective to export fully indigenous artillery and defense platforms to international partners.

Among the main systems presented is the MArG 155, a 155mm family of mounted gun systems available in both 39 and 45 calibre versions. These platforms are designed for all-terrain mobility and are integrated onto a Kalyani 4x4 wheeled chassis. They feature a shoot-and-scoot capability and are compatible with NATO-standard and in-service ammunition. The 39 calibre version weighs 21.5 tons, while the 45 calibre model weighs 23.5 tons. The system combines mobility, firepower, and operational reliability.
Also on display is the Garuda 105, an ultra-lightweight 105mm/37 calibre mobile gun system. Mounted on a Kalyani 4x4 chassis, this platform is engineered for all-weather and all-terrain use, including high-altitude environments. With shoot-and-scoot capability and a design that allows for both air-portable and airdrop deployment, the Garuda 105 is adaptable to a range of mission types, including direct fire roles.
KSSL also exhibits its range of autonomous naval solutions. These include the Mine Reconnaissance Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (MRAUV), the Expendable Underwater Target (EUT), and the Mobile Target Emulator (MTE). The MRAUV is in operational service with multiple navies and is used for deep-water mine detection and classification. The EUT serves as a training target for sonar operators and torpedo firing exercises. The MTE is deployable from submarines and functions as a decoy in anti-submarine warfare scenarios.
In addition to platforms, KSSL produces a range of ammunition. Originally developed for its artillery systems, the company now offers ready-to-fill shells for both medium and large calibres. This portfolio has expanded to include ammunition for unmanned systems, naval platforms, and small arms. KSSL positions itself as a comprehensive provider of artillery and ammunition solutions, with capabilities extending across multiple defense domains.
The company’s exhibit at DEFEA 2025 was officially inaugurated by the Ambassador of India to Greece, His Excellency Rudrendra Tandon. On May 7, General Dimitrios Choupis, Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, visited the KSSL booth and was briefed on the systems by KSSL CEO Neelesh Tungar.
Based in Pune, India, Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd. continues to develop and export a range of defense technologies. With vertically integrated operations and in-house expertise in artillery systems, ammunition, and autonomous naval technologies, KSSL is increasingly present in global defense markets. Its participation at DEFEA 2025 highlights an intention to expand the international reach of Indian-manufactured defense solutions through partnerships and controlled exports, in line with India’s strategic and industrial defense ambitions.
