ASELSAN’s GÖKTAN System Redefines Precision Ground Strikes with All-Weather Multi-Target Capability.

As global military operations increasingly demand high-precision and responsive ground-based strike capabilities, Türkiye’s ASELSAN has unveiled a strategic solution tailored to modern battlefield complexities. Revealed during IDEF 2025 in Istanbul, the GÖKTAN system represents a pivotal evolution in surface-to-surface precision engagement. Designed for day and night use under all weather conditions, GÖKTAN promises to revolutionize long-range ground warfare. Its emergence marks a significant advancement in Türkiye’s defense autonomy and operational depth.

ASELSAN’s GÖKTAN is a next-generation ground-based precision strike system engineered to deliver accurate and coordinated long-range firepower across multiple terrains and mission profiles. At its core, the system integrates the TOLUN-S smart munition, capable of 360-degree targeting and engaging multiple threats simultaneously. Its modular architecture ensures seamless integration across a wide array of platforms, offering armed forces exceptional flexibility. Whether deployed on mobile launchers or fixed ground units, GÖKTAN maximizes strike effectiveness with minimal logistical footprint.

The development of GÖKTAN aligns with ASELSAN’s strategy of investing in cutting-edge warfare systems responsive to current operational challenges. Drawing on nearly five decades of technological expertise, ASELSAN has designed GÖKTAN with input from end-users to ensure battlefield relevance. While the system was publicly unveiled at IDEF 2025, it is the result of several years of R&D combining domestic innovation with lessons learned from recent regional conflicts. Unlike legacy strike systems limited by directionality and weather constraints, GÖKTAN introduces full-spectrum engagement at any hour and under any meteorological conditions.

Compared to conventional artillery and precision rocket systems such as the American HIMARS or Israel’s EXTRA, GÖKTAN stands out due to its dual capabilities: 360-degree strike envelope and simultaneous multi-target engagement. While HIMARS requires pre-programmed trajectories and has limited angular flexibility, GÖKTAN integrates autonomous target selection and re-engagement loops, potentially reducing mission cycles. Its use of smart munitions over traditional kinetic warheads also enhances hit accuracy and reduces collateral damage, critical for hybrid conflict zones.

Strategically, GÖKTAN offers Türkiye a sovereign long-range precision strike capability that can deter threats along contested borders or support expeditionary operations. Geopolitically, its integration strengthens Türkiye’s hand in regional military balances, particularly in areas like northern Syria, the Aegean, or the Eastern Mediterranean. Militarily, the system fills a doctrinal gap between tactical artillery and ballistic missile assets, serving both as a frontline force multiplier and a rear-area fire support system. Its operational flexibility, compatibility with allied C2 networks, and resilience in electronic warfare environments position it as a key asset for both national and coalition scenarios.

By unveiling GÖKTAN, ASELSAN reinforces its status as a key innovator in precision strike systems, offering the Turkish Armed Forces and future partners a highly capable, flexible, and autonomous weapon tailored for modern multi-domain operations. As asymmetric threats evolve and battlefield environments grow more complex, GÖKTAN’s integration of smart munitions, target flexibility, and all-weather readiness reflects a decisive shift toward the next era of precision ground warfare.
