The deployment marks a significant milestone in UK-Singapore relations, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. As reported, the Carrier Strike Group will participate in joint military exercises, host diplomatic engagements, and showcase British naval power, including the deployment of F-35B Lightning II fighter jets aboard HMS Prince of Wales, aircraft carrier. The group is expected to take part in Exercise Talisman Sabre 2025 and host the Pacific Future Forum, further consolidating the UK's Indo-Pacific engagement strategy.
Operation Highmast represents the UK’s most ambitious maritime projection in the Indo-Pacific since its 2021 Carrier Strike Group deployment. The operation aims to reaffirm Britain's role as a key player in global security by building deeper defense ties with allies in Southeast Asia and the broader Indo-Pacific. It is designed to support freedom of navigation, deter coercive behavior in international waters, and promote multilateral cooperation in areas including maritime security, disaster response, and regional stability.
The British Carrier Strike Group is centered around HMS Prince of Wales, aircraft carrier, one of the Royal Navy’s two Queen Elizabeth-class capital ships. This state-of-the-art warship operates fifth-generation F-35B Lightning II fighter jets, supported by helicopters and unmanned systems for a range of air and sea control missions. The strike group is further composed of guided-missile destroyers, anti-submarine frigates, a nuclear-powered attack submarine, and a fleet auxiliary tanker, with additional support from allied vessels from Canada, Norway, Spain, and New Zealand, forming a powerful and interoperable multinational naval force.
