Ukraine Displays NATO Caliber Bohdana Howitzer with Battlefield Record at MSPO 2025.
According to information collected by Army Recognition during MSPO 2025 in Kielce, Poland, Ukraine officially showcased its combat-proven 2S22 Bohdana 155mm self-propelled howitzer, manufactured by KZVV, signaling the country’s industrial leap from battlefield necessity to full-spectrum NATO-standard artillery production. The display of the Bohdana at one of Central Europe’s most prominent defense exhibitions reflects Ukraine’s push to position itself not only as a resilient wartime innovator but also as a credible defense exporter capable of challenging traditional suppliers in the global artillery market.

The 2S22 Bohdana is a 155mm 52-caliber truck-mounted howitzer based on a high-mobility 8x8 platform. Designed from the outset to be fully NATO compatible, the system fires the entire range of standard 155mm ammunition including extended-range and precision-guided projectiles. The howitzer features a 23-liter chamber, a maximum firing range of 41.3 km, and elevation angles from minus 5 to plus 65 degrees, making it suitable for both direct and indirect fire support in fast-changing operational environments. With a fully armored cabin and integrated fire control systems, it is optimized for rapid deployment, short response times, and survivability under counter-battery fire.
The system has a five-man crew and carries up to 20 rounds onboard, enabling quick autonomous fire missions without immediate resupply. With a total mass of 28.32 tons, the Bohdana maintains a balance between mobility and firepower, offering a shoot-and-scoot capability that enhances its tactical value in modern warfare. During its operational use on the frontlines against Russian forces, the Bohdana demonstrated its effectiveness in long-range precision fire missions including high-profile strikes such as the 2022 engagement on Snake Island. Its battlefield performance under real combat conditions has significantly shaped its current configuration and production model.
The Bohdana is entirely manufactured in Ukraine, reflecting a closed-loop production cycle with no dependence on external suppliers. This ensures not only sustained domestic supply but also streamlined service and repair through mobile frontline teams and factory-based support. The platform's barrel is rated for up to 9,000 rounds and production capacity has reportedly scaled to up to 30 units per month, a major strategic advantage in wartime and for potential foreign customers.
The 2S22 Bohdana embodies Ukraine’s defense industrial resilience. Amid continuous Russian aggression, Ukraine has not only managed to supply its armed forces with modern NATO-interoperable artillery systems but is also preparing to export them. This challenges the traditional dominance of Western artillery manufacturers by offering a lower-cost, battle-proven alternative without the political constraints often attached to arms sales from EU or US manufacturers.
The Bohdana’s presence at MSPO 2025 marks more than just a product display. It signals a transformation. Ukraine is turning lessons from the battlefield into tangible market-ready capabilities that directly address the demands of modern warfare. With its proven operational record, scalable production, and full compliance with NATO standards, the 2S22 Bohdana is emerging as a powerful new player in the global artillery systems arena.
