Description

Saturday, March 3, 2012, at the Vaziani military firing-ground, a Georgian-produced MRLS 122mm (Multiple Rocket Launcher System) has been presented. Tactical-technical characteristics of the launch vehicle have been demonstrated in presence of the Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and Defence Minister Bacho Akhalaia. The 122mm multiple rocket launcher system is designed to defeat personnel, armored targets, artillery batteries, command posts and fortifications. The new Georgian MRLS is capable to control fire without the preliminary preparation of a position and without the help of crew minimizing the salvo time. The Georgian MRLS has been made on the base of Military Scientific-Technical Center “Delta” in subordination to the Ministry of Defence of Georgia. According to some sources the new Georgian made MLRS could already be deployed to in the fourth brigade of the Georgian Armed Forces.

Armament

The new home-made Georgian MRLS is equipped with a bank of 40 launch tubes 122 mm arranged in a rectangular shape that can be turned away from the armour cab. The rocket tube arrangement is a single rectangular bank of four layers each with 10 tubes. The 122mm rocket launcher system is mounted on the rear of the crew cab. The launcher has elevation from 0 to +60º with traverse being 80º right and 120º left. The rockets can be fired to a minimum range of 1,000m to 40,000m maximum.

Design and Protection
The design of the Georgian MRLS is conventional with the engine compartment at the front, cabin crew in the middle and rocket launcher system at the rear of the chassis. The cabin truck of the new Georgian MRLS is protected with armour plates which provide protection against firing of small arms and shell splinters. The armour crew cabin is equipped with two large doors on each side with small bullet-proof window to the upper part. The vehicle has seats for 5 people including the driver. The launch vehicle's cabin accommodates the launch preparation and firing equipment.
Propulsion
The Georgian MRLS can run at a maximum road speed of 80 km/h with a maximum range of 500 km.
Accessories
As for the Russian- made BM-21 MLRS, a sighting system is installed at the rear left of the launch tubes. A spare wheel is fiited at the rear of the crew cabin.
