Design
The 2B23 NONA-M1 mortar uses a single tube of 120mm caliber mounted on two wheels single axle carriage system. In firing position, the wheels are raised from the ground. A large circular base plate is fixed to the rear of the firing tube to assist in retarding the recoil effects and one anchoring foot is mounted beside each wheel. This mortar uses a breech-loading system that allows firing from shelter and provides crew protection. The wheels could also serve the gunnery crew well when relocating over short distances or turning their weapon against a target area as needed. The 2B23 NONA-M1 uses an automatic breech opening and locking system with an automatic change-over of the barrel for loading.
