Engineers of the Ukrainian UKROBORONPROM State Enterprise "Lviv Armored Plant" developed a prototype of a new multi-purpose recovery vehicle BTS-5B. This type of military equipment – must have at the battlefield - will significantly strengthen Ukrainian military capabilities. Ukrainian-made BTS-5B tracked armoured vehicle is based on T-72 main battle tank chassis.

"UKROBORONPROM engineers continue developing military equipment, necessary for Ukrainian military directly in the ATO area. Therefore, the manufacture of the prototype of a new multi-purpose recovery vehicle - combining important functions several cars– is completed"- said UKROBORONPROM Deputy Director General for Aircraft Industry and Operations Yurii Paschenko.

Universal multi-purpose recovery vehicle is designed to perform mechanical support on the battlefield, emergency evacuation of the damaged tanks from the combat zone, withdrawal of stuck or sunken tanks. The vehicle can lift loads, dig, weld and perform technical support of tank units in the field conditions.

The BTS-5B is based on the chassis of the main battle tank T-72. Mounted at the front of the hull on the left side is a hydraulic crane which can lift 12 tonnes. Other equipment of the vehicle includes also a 25 tonnes winch which can be increased to 100 tonnes, auxiliary winch, hydraulically operated dozer/stabilising blade at the front of the hull, towing equipment and a complete range of tools and recovery equipment.

The new recovery vehicle BTS-5B is motorized with a more powerful 4-stroke diesel engine, the vehicle can reach a maximum speed of 60 km/h, with a maximum cruising range of 700 km. The new BTS-5B is armed with an heavy machine gun NSV 12.7mm caliber for its self-proetction, and the crew is also equipped rocket-propelled grenade and assault rifles AKS-74.

The state enterprise "Lviv Armored Plant" has already released the first batch of new armored vehicles "Dozor-B" and signed a contract with the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine for production of this equipment type for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
