Ukraine receives Roshel Senator MRAP armored vehicles from US

In a tweet from visgrad24 dated September 7, 2023, it was revealed that 190 Roshel Senator MRAP armored vehicles have been ordered for the Ukrainian National Police and border guards by the U.S. State Department. MRAP vehicles are highly useful in the conflict in Ukraine, as the terrain is extensively mined by Russian forces, making the presence of such vehicles more than necessary for Ukrainian forces.

The vehicle is equipped with a remote-controlled weapon system as well as a mechanical or electric turret. In addition to these advanced armament systems, the vehicle has a gunner's seat, providing a stable platform for shooting. The Senator also has firing ports.

Under the hood, the Senator MRAP is powered by a 6.7L V8 Diesel engine that produces 330 horsepower at 2,600 rpm and 750 torque at 2,000 rpm. This engine is coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle's four-wheel drive (4WD) ensures optimal off-road capabilities. The tires are equipped with run-flat devices and come in sizes of 325/85 R16 - 285/65/17. With a fuel capacity of 257 liters, the Senator MRAP offers an operational range of up to 800 km.

The vehicle's dimensions are 6,000 x 2,400 x 2,500m, with a wheelbase of 3,683mm and a turning radius of 5,334m. The height with a turret can be customized depending on specific requirements. The Senator MRAP can accommodate up to 10 people, depending on its internal configuration, and has a payload capacity ranging from 1,200 to 2,000kg. This payload capacity can vary depending on the level of protection and installed equipment.

In terms of protection, the Senator MRAP meets the STANAG 4569 AEP 55 Vol.2 level 2 standards for both ballistic and blast protection. This includes armoring of key mechanical components, military-grade heavy-duty door hinges, and multi-layer bullet-resistant glass that features no spalling. The vehicle is also equipped with external view cameras providing a 360-degree field of view, and mine-protected seats. A heavy-duty winch and exhaust system round out the standard armoring features.
