RAFAEL, the renowned Israeli defense company, in collaboration with the Israeli Ministry of Defense's Directorate of Defense Research & Development (IMOD DDR&D), has announced the successful completion of a crucial test for its cutting-edge SPYDER air defense system. The test, conducted last month, marks a significant advancement in air defense capabilities, demonstrating the system's ability to intercept an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in a challenging operational scenario.

The SPYDER system, a staple in several global military forces, is designed to offer robust air defense against a variety of airborne threats, including missiles, UAVs, aircraft, helicopters, and tactical ballistic missiles (TBMs). Utilizing the PYTHON and Derby interceptor missiles, both produced by RAFAEL, the system has now been further enhanced with the introduction of the "All in One" configuration. This latest setup integrates a radar, electro-optical launcher, advanced control and command system, along with the interceptor missiles, all mounted on a single platform, enabling optimal defense for both point and area targets. This configuration can operate within a SPYDER battery or independently, requiring minimal operator involvement.

The SPYDER boasts impressive interception capabilities in terms of range, altitude, and detection. Equipped with two types of missiles, the Python-5 for short-range engagements and the Derby for medium-range, the SPYDER's operational range varies. The Python-5 can engage targets up to approximately 15 kilometers, while the Derby extends this reach to about 50 kilometers. In terms of altitude, the system can intercept threats at altitudes up to 9 kilometers, providing a comprehensive shield against various aerial threats. The detection range of the SPYDER system is also noteworthy, with its advanced radar capable of detecting targets at distances significantly beyond its interception range, ensuring early warning and ample time for threat engagement. These features collectively make the SPYDER a versatile and effective air defense solution for modern military forces.

The recent test in Israel involved the successful interception of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in a challenging operational scenario. The SPYDER All-in-One system achieved a direct and effective hit on the target, demonstrating its remarkable interception capabilities.

Brigadier General (Res.) Pini Yungman, Executive Vice President and Head of the Air Defense Division at RAFAEL, emphasized the significance of this achievement. "RAFAEL is a global leader in the development of air defense systems, with proven capabilities against advanced threats at various ranges," he stated. The success of the SPYDER All-in-One system test not only represents a technological breakthrough but also confirms RAFAEL's commitment to providing tailored solutions for evolving threats in different arenas. According to Yungman, this achievement is a pivotal milestone in the system's development, showcasing its exceptional effectiveness in intercepting challenging threats launched from the ground.

RAFAEL's portfolio of air defense systems, which includes the Iron Dome, SPYDER, and David's Sling, is well-regarded both in Israel and internationally.
