In February 2016, Finnish Defense Company Patria Group has announced an export license to sell an unspecified number of 8x8 Patria AMV armored vehicles to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Patria AMV has been used in Afghanistan, Chad and is also participating in ongoing Saudi-led operations in Yemen.

The Patria AMV vehicle was tested by UAE fitted with a BMP-3 turret armed with 100mm 2A70 gun and two coaxial weapons, namely, 30mm 2A72 automatic cannon and 7,62mm PKT/PKTM machine gun.

The Patria AMV used by the UAE armed forces in the combat operations in the Yemen Western coast is fitted with a remotely operated weapon station armed with 12.7mm heavy machine gun. To increase the protection of the vehicle, slat armour is added on each side of the hull offering more protection against RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenades) threats.

The first prototype of the Patria AMV was manufactured in 2001. Two years later the Finnish Defense Forces received the first vehicles whereas year 2004 marked the start up of serial production.

The hull of the Patria AMV is of all-welded steel construction that provides the crew and infantryman protection against firing of small arms and artillery shell splinters. The vehicle can be fitted with an additional passive armour to increase level of protection.
