United States has delivered armored variant of HMMWVs to Lebanon

The United States has delivered a batch of military equipment, including an armored version of High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs), to Lebanon, as part of Washington's support for the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF).

The deliveries occurred earlier this month. The U.S. Embassy in Lebanon said in a statement, "The United States Government delivered 150 new armored vehicles, weapons, radios, spare parts, and other equipment to the Lebanese Armed Forces on August 14 and 17. These two shipments, valued at nearly $60 million, are a part of our ongoing, long-term commitment to Lebanon's security."

In a video posted on its social media channels, the U.S. Embassy showed some of the hardware delivered, which included a significant amount of armored variant of High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs). The HMMWVs were offloaded by the vessel Liberty Pride in Beirut.

Washington is a key foreign security partner for the LAF, providing equipment, training, and operational support to the military. Since 2006, the U.S. has provided over $2 billion in assistance to the LAF

The M1114 HMMWVs an armored version of the Humvee family vehicle. The concept of the vehicle began in 1995 after a series of ballistic tests. The M1114 was designed and manufactured by the American Company AM General. The M1114 HMMWV was designed to conduct reconnaissance and security operations as its primary function.

The armor was integrated to a basic variant of the Humvee vehicle and consists The M1114 armor protection includes of welded aluminum, composite and steel. Up-Armored HMMWV (UAH) kit, FRAG (Fragmentary Armor Kits) kits 1, 1a, 2, and 5, as well as a GPK(Gunner Protection Kit) or MCTAGS (Marine Corps Transparent Armor Gun Shield ) for the gunner’s protection.
