Russian Defense Industry ready to market Uran-9 new armed robot UGV Unmanned Ground Vehicle
Russian Defense Industry unveils its new tracked combat unmanned ground (UGV) vehicle called "Uran-9", offering fire power and mobility of armoured infantry fighting vehicle. In 2016, Russian state arms export agency Rosoboronexport will start to promote the Uran-9 for the international market.

The Uran-9 is a light tracked armoured vehicle which is fitted with an unmanned turret armed with one 30mm 2A72 automatic cannon, a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun and Ataka ATGMs (Anti-Tank Guided Missile NATO Code At-9 Spiral-2). According Rosoboronexport, this UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle) can be fitted with full range of weapon station depending on customer requirements.

The Ataka missile has radio command guidance and is also a Beam riding SACLOS. This missile's primary variant was designed to defeat tanks with composite armour and explosive reactive armor. The maximum range of the missile is 8 km.

The Uran-9 is controlled via a command post located in a military truck which is equipped with screens and operating station to control the movement and armament of the Uran-9.

The robots are also fitted with a laser warning system and target detection, identification and tracking equipment.

The Uran-9 is designed to provide remote reconnaissance and fire support to combined arms, recon and counter-terror units. It consists of two recon and fire support robots, a tractor for their transportation and a mobile control post.

The Uran-9 is especially design to perform autonomous military and counter-terror operations. UGVs, in varying sizes to meet mission capability requirements, are today saving lives and providing critical supporting capabilities in current military operations worldwide.

“Russian developers possess all of the required competencies to create modern military robotics that will be in demand on the international market. This is a fast-growing segment of the arms market, so Rosoboronexport will develop and implement a long-term marketing strategy for promoting such pieces of hardware, including as part of integrated security projects,” said Boris Simakin who heads the Analysis and Long-Term Planning Department at Rosoboronexport.
