At
Eurosatory 2012, the Belgian Defence Company CMI Defence unveils a new
turret in its range of products, the Cockerill medium calibre weapon
systems. Acclaimed as designer and integrator of weapon systems, CMI
Defence is marked out by its innovative approach to designing turrets
and weapon stations on a flexible modular architecture. Modularity Acclaimed
as designer and integrator of weapon systems, CMI Defence is marked
out by its innovative approach to designing turrets based on a flexible
modular architecture. Its experience and technical expertise in integrating
cutting-edge multi-functional weapon systems into lightweight air-transportable
armoured vehicles provides CMI Defence with a unique capability: integrate
all types of medium calibre guns (25-50 mm) into turret systems that
make full use of CMI Defence's proven modules and technologies developed
for its large calibre CT-CV™
and LCTS90
Weapon Systems. One of the key features of the CMI Defence Cockerill
Medium Calibre Weapon Systems is the flexibility of the design. Independent
of all vehicle and subsystem manufacturers, CMI Defence is able to integrate
into its medium calibre turret designs a range of cannons, secondary
armaments, sighting systems, protection systems and other subsystems.
This adaptability allows CMI to offer solutions tailored to meet the
ever demanding operational needs of armed forces worldwide, also taking
into account their existing fleets. |

The Cockerill
Medium Calibre Weapon Systems is 2-man turret which can be
armed with medium calibre cannon from 25 to 50mm calibre.
The turret is able to rotate on 360° with a maximum elevation
of 60° and depression of -20°. The turret is fully
stabilized which allows firing on the move against static
and moving targets. The system can use two types of ammunitions
including programmable rounds. The turret can be armed with
secondary armaments such as grenade launchers of different
calibres and a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun. The turret has
also the possibility to be equipped with a whole range of
other armaments as anti-tank missiles, overhead weapon stations
or pintle mounted machine guns.

| Firing
and Observation Systems |
| The
firing control system of the Cockerill Medium Calibre Weapon
Systems is equipped with 2-axis stabilised Day/night (thermal
camera) gunner sighting system with laser range finder and a
ballistic computer to engage ground and low speed airborne targets
at 1,500 to 2,000 m. There is also 2-axis stabilized Day / Night
(thermal camera) panoramic sighting with laser range finder
(giving hunter-killer capability). Each member of the crew has
a display which provides images information about the sighting
systems (including video), turret operations controls and close
situational awareness system. |
| Design
and Protection |
The
Cockerill Medium Calibre Weapon Systems provides a ballistic
protection up to Level 5 (STANAG 4569) against 25mm APDS-T ammunitions
at 500m and 155mm artillery shells with add-on armour. The turret
is designed with modularity for integration of add-on systems
and subsystems, without recourse to a complete weapon system
re-design. It also offers a Growth potential and upgradeability
to reflect advances in technology or changes in user requirements.
The turret can be fitted with different types of self-defence
and warning systems as active protection system, anti-sniper
detection, battlefield management system, defensive aid suites,
fire extinguisher system, friend of foe identification and laser
warning detectors. The Advanced ergonomic design of commander's
and gunner's operating stations enhancing overall functionality. |
