Nexter
(formerly known as GIAT Industries or Groupement des Industries
de l'Armée de Terre, Army's Industries Group) is
a French government-owned weapons manufacturer. It manufactures
various weapons and other hardware for the French and
other foreign militaries, in the land, sea and air defence
sectors.
Thanks to its expertise with land combat systems, Nexter
primary aim is to meet the requirements of French and
foreign armies. Its area of activity extends to the supply
of equipment and ammunition for the Army, the Air Force
and the Navy. Nexter also provides services in the design
of products and the maintenance in operational condition.
With three complementary business lines, Nexter Group
specialises in a wide range of land defence systems. Nexter
strategy is based on several guiding principe. It strives
to enhance continuously its manufacturing plants, seeking
to improve responsiveness, performance and environmental
safety. Through a research and development policy that
welcome partnerships, Nexter adapts its product line to
constantly changing threats. its entire team is commited
to achieving customer satisfaction and upholding company
values.
The Group is anchored by its internationally recognized
skills carried over from the former Giat industries. And
by the consistent investment in research and development
that it has pursued for many years to offer to its customers
solutions that meet their needs.
The primary company, Nexter Systems has several specialised
subsidiaries, which are organised by business lines. This
organisation of the Group Nexter around three complementary
business lines allows each activity to optimise its own
development, while simultaneously ensuring internal sunergies
and Group unity.
|
| |
| The
three business lines are: |
-
Nexter Systems (weapons and armoured systems)
comprises the bulk of the Systems Business line, which
also include Nexter Training, a subsidiary created in
2008 to develop GTV® (Generic Virtual Training, an
innovative concept iin computer-assisted training) software,
and CTA International, a joint venture with BAE Systems
(40 mm CTA weapon system).
-
The Munitions Business line consists of Nexter
Munitions, which is specialised in artillery,
tank and medium-calibre munitions. Nexter Munitions is
also partnership with european missile manufacturers in
the areas of warheads, safety systems and pyrotechnic
components.
- The Equipment Business Line includes
the subsidiaries Nexter Electronic (electronics for extreme
conditions) and Nexter Mechanics (mechanic with significant
added value). In 2008, the business line acquired from
Giat Industries the following subsidiaries: NBC-sys (individual
and collective protection systems against nuclear, biological
and chemical attacks), Euro-Shelter (tactical shelters,
mobile logistics systems, mobile medical systems) and
Optsys (optomechanical and optoelectronic systems for
military use). |
| |
Carrying
on a very long tradition, Nexter is also a technological
leader, with products as original as the High Protected
wheeled armoured vehicle Aravis, the Caesar wheeled self-propelled
howitzer or the last wheeled armoured infantry fighting
vehicle VBCI, which, today, are still major elements in
the equipment
of our armed forces. Since many years, Nexter thus provided
an expertise that combined technical level, listening
to customer requirements and original development for
the French Army and also for foreign customers. For the
third consecutive year, Nexter Group achieved a consolidated
operating margin of over 10%, evidence of the company's
strong and recurrent profitability. Consolidated orders
came to €560 millions in 2008, up by 13% from 2007
on a like-for-like basis. Nexter Group's consolidated
sales in 2008 came to €579 million, which was close
to the €587 million invoiced in 2007. As expected,
this sales figure reflects a transition year between the
completion of manufacturing programmes of Leclerc main
battle tank and the beginning of new production programme
VBCI and CAESAR®. With an order book totalling €1.9
billion at the end of 2008 and an expanded range of competitive
products, Nexter Group has undeniably entered a dynamic
growth phase that should last for many years. |
